Clare Valley
Perhaps the most scenic wine region of them all, with rolling hills, cosy
valleys and breathtaking views to drink in. The Clare Valley was first settled
by English, Irish and Polish immigrants in the 1840s and wine production
began soon afterwards in 1851. The heritage of this era is very well
preserved, with 19th century stone buildings and churches dotting
the landscape.
The main towns of the wine area include Auburn, Leasingham, Watervale,
Penwortham, Sevenhill and Clare itself. The region was the pioneer of wine
tourism as we know it today, being the first to introduce outdoor cultural
concerts and wine tasting tours.
